Bob was our Pastor at Dexter and Pen Center churches for many years. A good friend and a good caring man!

Helen, my heart is heavy this morning after hearing of Bob's passing. I treasure the years you and Bob worshiped with us. Bob was, to me, the quintessential pastor. He was gentle and kind, had a wonderful sense of humor, spoke from the heart during sermons, and was able to relate and visit with virtually anyone he met. One thing I always noticed about Bob was that when he was in the pulpit, he always took time to thank everyone who had a part in the service: the organist, the acolytes, the Lay Leader, the choir members and director. He called them by name and thanked them for their assistance in worship. I looked forward each year to having either Bob or you, Helen, come and preach for us while our pastor was away. He will truly be missed. May the many wonderful memories you have comfort you and give you strength during this difficult time. Please know you are in Rich's and my thoughts and prayers. Sending electronic hugs to you until I can see you and give you a hug in person to let you know how sorry I am.

Rev. Farr officiated my wedding ceremony in 1983 at Penn Center church south of Dexter, IA. My condolences to his family. He was a very kind and compassionate man. I am glad to have known him and that I have the special memory of him being part of my wedding day.

CandleI have the fondest memories of serving on teams with Bob and Helen on three-day Christian leadership weekends (Cursillo and Walk to Emmaus). One particular memory that makes Bob extra-special to me: We were attending the Friday evening/Saturday over-night practice for a weekend, Bob as the Spiritual Director and myself as team musician. Bob wanted to end our Friday night sessions with a Communion service before bed time. I was alone in the designated worship area working on music for the service. The lights had been dimmed. I looked up when Bob entered the room carrying the communion elements and was totally awestruck by the reverence with which he both carried the elements and set the Table of Grace. I was mesmerized. At that exact moment I felt hands on my shoulders as though someone had entered the room behind me and rested their hands on my shoulders. Then I heard God speak to me, calling me to ministry. It was God's hands on my shoulders. There is not a time that I don't prepare for Holy Communion without thinking of Bob with a prayer from a full heart of thankfulness. Pastor Karen Berg Currier (my last name was Mauser when I first met Bob and Helen) Bob was a wonderful friend and mentor.

Annette and I knew Bob, Helen, and the girls early in our ministry. But Bob and I have a personal relationship that goes back to 1978 when I made my Cursillo (now Walk to Emmaus) in September of 1978. Bob was a wonderful friend and mentor, and I took his example and love for rural churches to heart during my tenure in ministry. We had some great and joyful times together at the Men's and Women's weekends when we had the opportunity to serve on the same Emmaus teams. Thank you, Helen and young ladies for sharing Bob with the Emmaus/Cursillo communities of Iowa.
