Kerry Andrew Morrissey, 60, of Boone, Iowa passed away on June 13, 2020 from complications due to COVID-19. He was a farmer to his core, having grown up on his family farm and continuing to help others with their farming operations until the end. He earned his degree in Auto Mechanics and devoted his entire life to tinkering with anything with an engine - specifically Farmall and Allis-Chalmers tractors (and may it be said that he only drove a John Deere when the Busches forced him to - though he did always shower afterwards). He married Cherie Quillen on September 18, 1982 and they had their two girls, Stacey and Katie. He spent 27 years working for the Ames Post Office, which he loved, and took care of all the vehicles. He was always driving across the universe to get a new truck or a new car or a new tractor, and working in his shop with his best friend, Loren. He would say his greatest achievements are his two daughters ("other than wrecking a couple of cars, you girls turned out alright") and that he got his Nissan Altima to make it to 500,000 miles.

He did not care to follow anyone's rules but his own or listen to anyone's opinions but his own. He was hilarious, sarcastic, stubborn, practical, and also one of the most generous of human beings. He would drop everything to help anyone at any time of day and keep a level head through all crisis situations. He taught his girls to be kind, discerning, and sometimes self-sufficient - but we all know he believed "if you want something done right - do it yourself" so that did tend to go by the wayside. There is so much that can be said for and about him, but suffice it to say that he will be sorely and deeply missed by so many.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Charlotte Morrissey, and his brothers, Phillip and Mark Morrissey. He is survived by his wife, Cherie Morrissey, his daughters, Stacey Williams and Katie Morrissey, his sister, Becky Seifert, and grandson, Fox Williams (who will always have his grandpa's red hair!).

Due to the presence of COVID-19, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Any inquiries or memories can be emailed to Stacey [email protected].

Kerry is kind, considerate, thoughtful, fun, interesting, humble, confidant, amiable, easy-going, warmhearted, and steady. I remember when you're talking with him, he had this thoughtful expression on his face, as if he has something more to say. He was a truly good person and he will always have a special place in my heart. My condolences to your family.

Before taking on the monumental job of moving their large extended family farm home from just west of Ames to north of Boone, I rented the pasture on Kerry and Cherie's acreage for several years. We live just a half mile from the Ames acreage so became good neighbors and especially enjoyed watching "the girls" grow up during this period. The obituary mentioned that Kerry's philosophy of getting a job done right by doing it yourself certainly explains why Kerry could fix or build anything. I have fond memories or the years as neighbors and certainly want to express my sympathy to you Cherie, Stacey, and Katie.

I worked w Kerry my entire time in Ames PO, we started within 6 months of each other and he made all new employees feel comfortable and ready to answer questions. Once he switched to vehicle maintenance he was still always there to answer our questions about our trucks or personal vehicles. I certainly know I appreciated his knowledge that he shared with a sense of humor, I think he liked to tease me in his own way about my lack of knowledge about trucks/cars, but he never made me feel foolish. Kind and patient and funny are just 3 adjectives, I’m so sorry for your family’s loss and I will hold you all in thoughts and prayers... he was my coworker and my friend...

I am so saddened to hear of Kerry's passing. He was a great neighbor, and he always seemed young at heart. His obituary was very touching and true to the wonderful things about him. My sympathies to Cherie and the girls. Linda Ross

CandleMy deepest sympathy to Kerry's family. I've known him most of my life and his smile is something I won't ever forget. Quiet, kind, funny, and genuine. One of the good ones.

The obituary does a marvelous job of describing the Kerry I knew, he worked at the post office with my husband and did work on several of our cars. So sorry for your loss.

Kerry and Cherie are two of the kindest people I have ever known. They welcomed my daughter, Tara, into their home to play with Stacey often when they were kids. He will be missed by many. You have my deepest sympathies. Marce (Zeman) Bruhn
