Michael Pounds, 64, of Ames, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on October 29, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mike was born on February 27, 1956, in the state of New York, to Harold and Margery "Dolly" (Hovda) Casto. For most of his life, Mike lived in Ellsworth, Iowa where he attended church at Trinity Lutheran and graduated with the Class of 1974 from South Hamilton High School. He married Julie Lindahl on July 30, 1977 and from this union, they had three children: Leah, Elyse and Conor. The two eventually made their way to Ames where Mike worked in maintenance at Walmart.

His hobbies and interests included spending time with family, collecting hot wheels, going to Prairie Meadows and out to eat where they had good burgers and fries. Mike was a man who would wrap his arms around his children with the biggest bear hugs and come to their rescue in an instant. He adored his grandchildren and could often be found playing with them at Perfect Games or taking them to the movies. Mike loved his family and had the capacity to make people smile and laugh. He will be missed dearly.

Left to cherish Mike's memory are his wife of 43 years, Julie; his children, Leah (Chase) Chance, Elyse (Shaun) Zatloukal and Conor Pounds; grandchildren, Aiden, Ethan, Joseph and Oliver Chance; Owen and Olivia Zatloukal; sister, Loretta (Bernie) Heinen; and nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dolly Casto; and brother, Larry Casto.

I am so saddened to hear about Mike's passing. He was a good friend of the Dalbey family, since as long as I can remember. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I just learned of Mikes passing and am deeply saddened for Julie and his family. He was one of my first friends when I lived in Ellsworth so many years ago and have fond memories of going to Dolly and Harold's house when I was a kid to check out the latest addition to his toy collection. He always had the best stuff ! I remember watching the first Beatles concert in their living room. When I came back to live in Ellsworth in the late 70s, when it was nice out, we would spend hours throwing Frisbee until dark and then would check out his his most recent vinyl record addition. I don't think I ever saw Mike without a smile on his face and although I lost touch with him over years I will never forget his smile. He was a compassionate and loving family man that was taken too soon but he will always remain in our hearts. God Bless Mike and his family.

Mike would always tease me at the Wal-Mart health screening about working at 3M and knowing my mom and dad from there. He was always happy. He will be missed.

Mike was one of the most fun loving guys I have known. We worked together for years. I remember when he and Julie started dating, then their marriage, and when they were expecting their twins. Poor little Julie! Life sometimes just doesn't seem fair but our God has the answers. Keep your faith in Him.

CandleWhenever I saw your dad he always had the biggest smile on his face. I loved it when he came into the salon although I know when you were working it drove you crazy lol because he would love to hang out and talk to everybody forever!!! he loved people, And we loved him back. Never ever did I see him without a smile and the 10 years I’ve known him. Rest in peace my friend. My deepest sympathy to your entire family.
