On Sunday, January 9th 2022, Karen Tuttle, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 71.
Karen was born on February 12th, 1950 in Fremont, Nebraska to Francis 'Jack' and Margaret (Kaup) Foy. She received her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Nebraska, and worked in elementary speech and language development for over 30 years in Ames, IA. On November 24th, 1973, she married Terry Tuttle. They raised one son, Chris, and two daughters, Jenny and Emily.
Karen will be remembered for her loving nature, compassion for others, and on rare occasions her endearing stubbornness. She cherished spending time with her five grandchildren. Karen's devotion to her family was unrelenting. Karen brought an upbeat cheerful spirit to many family reunions among her six siblings and families. Karen also enjoyed the company of countless friends while discussing books, playing bridge, enjoying a musical or play, and sharing a good cup of coffee. After her career in Speech Pathology, Karen continued to share her passion for learning by working at the Pumpkin Patch toy store in downtown Ames.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Kyle) Meeske of Los Gatos, California and Emily (Isaac) Law of Ames. Karen was a proud grandmother to Abigail and Logan Meeske and Julia, Charles, and Audrey Law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Margaret Foy of Fremont, NE; her husband, Terry Tuttle of Ames; and her son, Christopher Tuttle of Chicago, IL.
Services are being planned for later in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tuttle Memorial Fund at First National Bank of Ames, 405 5th Street, Ames, IA 50010 for a scholarship fund in her memory.
Karen was a co-worker and friend for over 35 years. She was a model for living a full life, every day. Her love and joy in her children and grandchildren was boundless. Karen enjoyed sharing tender stories about each of them. Her devotion to her faith, family, and friends was fierce. Karen's spirit was warm, engaging, and always welcoming. I will miss her company and her friendship. Rest in peace, Karen.
Karen was my sister Laurie Greer's friend first, but through all of our Ladies of the Lake weeks at Lake Okoboji I got to know her too. Jenny and Emily, she simply outstanding, and I am grateful to have known her. Her kindness and consideration made her a favorite of our group, and I always liked being around her. You and your families will be in my thoughts and prayers. Margy Greer Winkler
Dear Jenny and Emily, We are so sorry to hear of your Mom's death. She was such a special person and took such pride in her children and grandchildren. I always hoped to see her at Pumpkin Patch to catch up on all your activities. Surely you have acquired some of her wonderful characteristics. I have many fond memories of her especially of our shared St. Cecilia School days. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

I think Karen was an angel loaned to us for a short time. I will keep my memories of bridge, book club and friendship in my heart. She was just a lovely person and individual. She will be missed.
Jenny and Emily and families, I am so very sad about the loss of your mom and grandmother. I was privileged to work with Karen for many years as an SLP, and she was always supportive, calm, caring, and wise when working with the SLP staff. She was the best listener and always made everyone she talked with feel special. She lit up a room, whether it was at book club, coffee, an SLP meeting, or over a glass of wine. I loved her laugh, and so many other things about her. She will be greatly missed by so many, which means, of course, that she was so very loved. My heart goes out to all of you.
Jenny and Emily, it’s with a heavy heart that I send this message. I have so many cherished memories of your mom. We spent endless hours together at UNL writing our master’s thesis in graduate school Nest friends for life. Karen and your dad were our son Eric’s Godparents. We typically celebrated our birthdays together but haven’t been in touch during the pandemic. Life so fragile, loss so sudden, hearts so broken. The love that your mom has given and received remains behind to light the lives of those she’s touched, each memory a candle burning bright. I’m wishing you comfort in knowing how much she was loved and how brightly her love shines on. There will always be a special place in my heart for her.

Jenny and Emily, I am so sorry to hear that your mom died. She was such a wonderfully kind person. She was our daughter’s speech therapist and that was my first connection with your mom. She had such a talent for working with children. I ran into her at the Pumpkin Patch on occasion. She was always so proud of her family. She will be missed. Thinking of you.
