Jack Dunn was born on October 4, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Leo Dunn and Bonnie Wallace. He attended Des Moines East High School and graduated with the class of 1964.
In August 1964, Jack met his future wife Carol at a Four Square Church picnic. Six months later, they were married. At that time, he was working at the Younkers store in downtown Des Moines. Soon thereafter he began working with United Parcel Service, where he worked for more than 32 years in Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, and Columbus. Over the years, Jack and Carol were blessed with three children, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Jack was a huge fan of western movies and was an avid John Wayne collector. He loved all sports, especially baseball. He grew up a fan of the New York Yankees but did switch his allegiances to the Cincinnati Reds when he got to the Queen City.
Travel was a huge passion. Jack and Carol spent years as snowbirds in Maui. He even got the chance to meet island celebrities like Don Ho, Al Harrington, and even Miss Hawaii. He also got the chance to meet SHeDaisy, and got his photo taken with Blake Shelton not once, but twice. He also was a frequent visitor to the Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Orlando, Florida areas.
Left to cherish Jack's memory is his wife, Carol Oswalt Dunn; children, John R. (Erika) Dunn, Linda Dunn-Jones, Michael W. (Colleen) Dunn; grandchildren Ken (Meghan) Fischer, Alisha (Jay) Feldkamp, Abbey (Steve) Weimann, Austin Dunn, Kirsten Jones, Kyle Jones, Kayla Jones, Liam Dunn; great grandchildren Cheyenne, Leo, Jude, Max, Jonah, and Evie; and sisters Kay Collins, Carol Prindle, and Mary Jo Dunn.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bonnie Dunn, and brothers Wayne Dunn, Bill Dunn, and Jerry Dunn.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Bethany Life of Story City, Iowa.
Sending our prayers , thoughts and our sympathies to all of Jack's family. You will be missed, Jack.
