Shirley Ann Green was born February 23, 1938, in Ames, Iowa, daughter of Forrest and Mabel (Ball) Green. She graduated from Ames High School in 1955. She met Bernard Strudthoff in 1955. The couple was married June 17, 1961, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa. While Bernard was in the service, the couple spent 18 months in Germany where Shirley worked on the base. After returning to Iowa, they lived in Marshalltown from 1963 to 1993, where she worked at Younkers as an office manager. In 1993, they returned to Ames. She finished her career at Bethany Life in Story City as a CNA.
Shirley liked attending family events and meeting up with lifelong friends. She was a proud grandma and enjoyed having her three granddaughters close by her side making cookies, telling stories, and spending time after school. Shirley took pleasure in helping others and making them happy. She was an avid Iowa State fan, never missing an opportunity to watch or listen to a game. In her leisure time Shirley enjoyed bowling and drinking Guinness. When her children were grown, she spent time traveling to California, Arizona, Florida, Europe, and camping with her granddaughters. Shirley was member of St Cecilia Catholic Church.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Bernard Strudthoff, her children, Dee (Rick) Myer and Tod (Stephanie) and their three daughters, Ella, Lydia and Caitlin Strudthoff, brothers, Duane (Joetta) Green, Ron "Bear" Green, and a sister, Gloria Estes. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Carol Green.
