Lois was born November 10,1932 in Alexandria, South Dakota to Raymond and Alma Kunkel. She graduated from Edgerton Consolidated High School in Farmer. After her primary education, she attended General Beadle State Teachers College in Madison, SD.

She has six grandchildren Eric (Kathy) Schmidt, Laura (Kelly) Schoonover, Kristine (Adam) Wolfe, Adam (Bailey) Schmidt, Kevin Stasko and Lindsay Kayser; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Lloyd "Bud" Kunkel and Ronald "Ron" Kunkel and a sister Mary (Gib) Zeal; 2 sister-in law Gert Kayser and Ellie Kayser.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband Norbert "Buss" Kayser; parents, Raymond and Alma Kunkel, and sister Lucine "Lu" Merlock.
Lois' words of wisdom: A game of cribbage is never time wasted. You can never have enough sugar on your Cheerios. Chocolate chip cookies fix everything. And a good book is like a good friend. Her beautiful soul will never be forgotten.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held Friday, October 20 at Holy Family Parish Social Hall, 222 N. Kimball, Mitchell, SD from 3-5 p.m.

We are so sorry to hear that Lois has passed. Of all the people we know, she was one of the best. She could tell stories for hours.
So sorry we cannot express our sympathy in person but we are flying to Texas on the 17th. All the family will be in our thoughts and prayers as you say goodbye to a beautiful lady.

Lois was the nicest person. She was so helpful to everyone in her job at the Hanson County Register of Deeds and helped me many time mostly over the phone. Always very friendly and kind. I'm glad she got to spend several years near her family after she retired. Mary Freeman

Lois and I played many games of Cribbage on the weekends when I was in high school. We’d talk about so many things! The sentiment that a game of cribbage is never time wasted really hit home for me. She taught me so much of what I still hold dear today. She was a very special lady and her legacy lives on through us.

Aunt Lois was a very special lady! Always made you feel like you were her own child. Loved visiting with her when we came up to visit the Kunkel family. Always had a great sense of humor and loved her desserts. Still have some of her recipes!! Mom always said she was a great cook and knew they had a special bond, even sharing the same birthday, 2 years apart. Sending Love and comfort. Love, Laura Lorenz and family.❤️
