Harl Elroy Ingham, age 88, of Ames, Iowa, died on December 28, 2023 at Bickford Cottage Senior Living assisted by the care of Suncrest Home Health & Hospice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames.

Harl was born on June 19, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to William H. and Alma M. (Nicholson) Ingham. He started elementary school in Marshalltown and continued his education at Colo Community School in Colo, Iowa, where he received his high school diploma. On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Norma J. Pepper.

After high school, Harl served in the United States Air Force for four years. While in the Air Force, Harl and Norma lived in Washington and Wyoming. After his discharge he was employed in the data processing departments at many different manufacturing firms in the Midwest, including Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Seeking a career change in 1974, Harl and Norma bought the Lincoln Lodge Motel in Ames, Iowa. But after realizing how much the business tied them down, they sold it and Harl went back to corporate employment. His last career move before retirement was to become the Office manager and Estimator for Rich Lepper Construction, Inc. which he did for ten years.

Harl attended Christ Community Church in Ames and enjoyed the weekly Men's Bible Study group. He enjoyed fishing, his flower gardens, working on puzzles, reading, and playing games with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching sports and attending his grandchildren's events.

Survivors include his daughter, MarlaKay (Rich) Lepper and his son, Joel (Cathy) Ingham, both of Ames and six grandchildren, Austin (Amanda) Lepper of Ames, Ryan (Diana) Lepper of North Oaks, Minnesota, Chelsie (Drew) Dickson of Ames, Alexandra (Shawn) Kunkel of Bondurant, Iowa, Anastasia (Edward Thorne) Andresen of Boone, Iowa, and Andre Ingham of Ames. Survivors also include 12 great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Harl in death was his wife, Norma, of 66 years; five brothers, Wayne, Delmar, Carman, Lee, and Marvin; a twin brother at birth, one other brother and a sister at birth and his parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials given to the family will be donated to Dementia research.

Tuesday Men’s Bible Study
via Zoom!

Ken Augustine on Dec 30, 2023

Rich and Marla: We grieve with you, but not as those without hope. Harl was a delight to get to know in our Tuesday Men’s Bible study. You could tell by his remarks that he loved his family very much. His faith in Christ was deep and strong. We will all miss him.
