Franklin (Frank) Delano Chapman Sr. was born on August 29, 1933, to Charles and Irene (Myers) Chapman in Granite City, Illinois. In January of 1952, he married his lovely bride Lucy 'Marie' Dodson in Nameoki, Illinois and spent 8 years in the military before joining the U. S. Post service as a carrier. Frank built their first home in Mitchell, Illinois as he and Marie started their family. While working as a postal carrier and raising a family, he enrolled in college, at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville at the age of 38. With a BA in Art and History, Frank was selected through a national program for Postal Management and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Little over a year later, he was appointed as the Regional Postmaster in Sedalia, Missouri, where he worked until retirement at the age of 55 in 1988. Upon retirement, with only his mind, imagination, and determination, he and his wife built themselves a beautiful home on a fifty-acre wooded site in Stover, Missouri. He designed, cleared, dug, built, painted, plumbed, wired, and fenced as well as cared for many different animals. His love for animals was timeless, whereas, over the next 30 years, he raised cows, donkeys, llamas, sheep, chickens, ducks, goats, cats, dogs, and many horses. Horses were his favorite. There was little, mentally, or physically, he could not do if he decided on it. Frank was a great example to his family of what hard work, perseverance, and a keen wit, can accomplish if you accept the challenge of one nail or one tree at a time. He will be missed.

Left to cherish Frank's memory is his loving wife of 72 years, Marie, his children: Linda (Mark) Westgate, Frank (Terri) Chapman Jr., Garry (Ann) Chapman, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irene, his son Jeffry, daughters Frances and Mae, and brother Charles C. Chapman Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Monday February 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church (1416 20th Street, Ames, Iowa 50010) with a time of fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Frank's name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation: t2t.org/. or Shriners Children Hospital: https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/giving

Marie and family,
I have such fond memories of Frank when I would be at the house with Jeff. An amazing father to my best friend, whom I still miss greatly. Sending love and hugs!
