Mary Jane Shellington Nims, 83, passed away on March 12, 2026.

Mary Jane was born on February 6, 1943, in Wakefield, Nebraska, to Elbert and Ermine Shellington. She grew up in Wakefield, Nebraska, and Carmel, California, and attended Wayne State College in Nebraska.

Mary Jane worked at Iowa State University for 40 years. She also worked part-time as a Homemaker Health Aide in Ames and was a member of the Shipley School House Group.

She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Iowa State Cyclones. She enjoyed doing ceramics and traveling, loved all things Elvis Presley, and loved to bake, particularly with her grandchildren. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her partner of 45 years, Stan Twedt; her children Tom Nims (Meredith), Shaughna Green (Greg), and Angella Brink (Eric); and her grandchildren Danielle, Nicholle, Dylan, Grace, Olivia, Emma, Sophia, Max, Hudson, Finley, and Harper. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Ermine Shellington; her sisters Marjorie, Elberta, Joyce, and June; and her brothers Jerome, John, and Tom.

A memorial service celebrating Mary Jane's life will be held at 1:00 PM on May 2, 2026, in the Campanile Room at the Memorial Union, 2229 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50014
