Philip John Morrissey, age 52, a resident of Ames, died Thursday Feb. 28 while working in Pocahontas, Iowa.†
Phil was born February 4, 1956 in Ames, Ia., the third child of John and Charlotte (Williams) Morrissey. He graduated from United Community School in 1974. He was active in Future Farmers of America, football and was elected class president. Phil was also very active in 4H, showing swine and making several trips to the Iowa State Fair.†
Phil was married and divorced to Ginger Bosley. He met Beverly Wilkerson in So. California and they were married on February 23, 1991 in Pasadena, Ca.†
Phil and Beverly remained in So. California, where Phil continued his career as a professional truck driver working, in the entertainment industry. Phil and Beverly were active in their church, Christian Assembly, in Eagle Rock, CA. They enjoyed many family and friends in California.
In 2002, Phil and Beverly returned to Ames with their sons Kelsey and Cory to be with Phil's Mom, Charlotte. Most recently Phil drove for BlackJack Pork of Ames, hauling livestock. A job he loved as he felt he was back to his roots, which brought back many memories of days on the family farm with his father.
. Phil enjoyed grilling and smoking meats. He also enjoyed Food Network Channel, NASCAR, country western music, John Wayne movies and softball. He took special pride in all his sons' activities, which included sports at Gilbert, scouting, and just being their dad.
Phil loved Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was active in Stonebrook Community Church along with his family.
Philip is survived by his wife Beverly; two sons; Kelsey Philip and Cory John; and his mother Charlotte Morrissey, all of Ames. He is also survived by his sister Rebecca (Richard) Seifert of Cedar Burg, Wis.; two brothers, Mark Morrissey of Aurora, Co.; Kerry (Cheryl) Morrissey of Boone, Ia.; numerous neices and nephews: his father and mother-in-law, Roger and Novella Wilkerson of Stockton, Ca.; †aunts Alice Morrissey of Ames, Rita Marshall of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Betty Williams of Humeston, Ia., and Helen Orr of Fla.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Morrissey, and his mother's second husband, Howard Fatka.
A gathering of friends will be held at 2 -- 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 at Stonebrook Community Church in Ames, with a 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, March 3rd, at the church.
